Spotlight on Kat Greene: The Heart Behind the Athens Farmers Market

Athens Main Street is proud to shine a well-deserved spotlight on Kat Greene, the longtime Market Manager of the Athens Farmers Market at Doug Gates Park. Kat is celebrating 10 years of dedicated leadership that has helped grow the market into one of the most beloved and vibrant community traditions in Limestone County.

From managing logistics to cultivating community, Kat wears many hats. She oversees vendor registration, assigns stalls, manages operations on Tuesdays and Saturdays, books musical talent, and chairs the ever-popular Market Theme Days. Her behind-the-scenes efforts and her warm smile are key reasons the market continues to thrive.

“Kat is a major reason why the market has grown exponentially over the past 10 years,” said Tere Richardson, Executive Director of Athens Main Street. “She brings professionalism, care, and a genuine love for our market community to everything she does.”

Richardson attributes the market’s success in large part to her tireless work and welcoming personality.

Before her part-time role working for Athens Main Street, Kat volunteered for three years with the farmers market. Kat also recently served as a volunteer on the Athens Main Street Design Committee during the two-year renovation of the Farmers Market. Her insight and firsthand knowledge of what vendors and patrons needed helped shape the revitalized market into a welcoming and functional space for the entire community.

Beyond her official role, Kat is a beloved fixture at the market, appreciated by both vendors and patrons alike. Her husband, Brad Greene, of The Silver Silos, is a frequent performer at Saturday markets, adding a personal and musical touch. The Greenes’ children, Ellis and Freddie, can often be spotted enjoying the market as well, making the entire experience truly a family affair.

Athens Main Street is incredibly grateful to Kat Greene for her decade of service, and we look forward to many more years of community building under her guidance.
