Merchants Alley Committee Announces Winners of Instagram Spot Designs

ATHENS, Ala. – Local high school students win contest to have their original art displayed in Merchants Alley.

The first, second and third place winners picked up their checks on Tuesday for placing in the Merchants Alley Instagram Spot Art Contest.  Open to budding Athens-Limestone County artists from 14 – 18 years old, the contest provided a way to celebrate younger artists.

Athens Main Street Executive Director Tere Richardson was thrilled with the number and quality of the submissions.

“We were only planning to award one prize, but had so many great submissions, we decided to expand it to three,” said Richardson. “Congratulations to our talented winners.”

The Instagram spots will be created from the winning submissions in Merchants Alley once construction is complete in July. Athens Arts League will assist in painting the sketches. The alley will connect a public parking lot to Jefferson Street and serve as a gathering place and public art gallery for the community. The theme is Athens Amplified, with an emphasis on music.
